Greetings and Thankyous – from friends in Saffron Walden!

Remember the day you welcomed special visitors to your school? Well, these children remember it well too! They all had a great time and here are some messages to you from them:

Dear CAE at Moreton Hall,

Thank you so much for allowing us to come to your amazing school. We very much enjoyed playing in the pool and writing horoscopes with you. And THANK YOU TO Cristina for showing us round the school.

Lots of love, Ellie and Teagan  xxx

“Hello everyone. After I saw you all in the summer holidays I went to Cornwall to do surfing and body boarding, it was great! A few weekends ago was Halloween and we got to dress up and collect sweets and chocolate. Then Saturday night was bonfire night and there was a big fireworks display in our town, Saffron Walden. I loved it!  Thank you for having me at CAE at Moreton Hall. I really enjoyed the day, meeting lots of you and I hope you are having a good time back in your home countries.

from Josh.

“Thank you so much for allowing us to visit your school. I thought it was amazing. My favourite thing was the pool – and I wish our school had one as well! Thank you also to Christina who was a wonderful host on the day.

Lots of love, Evie.

“Thank you for letting us come and visit you and see what you do, I hope you enjoyed us being there as much as we enjoyed being there. Me and my friends talked about it for weeks on end,  and we still talk about it now. We talked about how everyone was caring, kind and always willing to help. Thank you again for inviting us to come and visit you, hope we see you again.

Charlotte,  RA Butler Academy YR 6,

“Movie making” – Barney tells us about his favourite weekly activity

We know lots of children really enjoy the Movie making weekly activity at MH every year. Did you know that it is one of Barney’s favourites too? Here’s a special message from him: “One of the things I like best about Moreton Hall is making the films! and this is how it usually goes…

On MondayBrainstorming!

Make a film about what?”;  ” We have NO ideas.”;  “Oh! we could make a film about...”;  ” No, that’s silly!”; “Well, what if we…?”;  “Yes! and we can….!”;  “That’s a great idea! We have a film!”…   ( … ALMOST)

On TuesdayScripting!

“Okay… how are we going to film our great idea?”;  “Where are we going to film the actors?”;  “What exactly are the actors going to say?”;  “Who are the actors?!?!?!”;  “Great! We have a plan!”…       ( … ALMOST)

On WednesdayStoryboarding! Props & costumes!

“What will our film look like?”;  “Where do we put the actors?”“Where do we put the cameraman?”;    “How do we make a ghost costume?”;  “This is getting complicated!” …

On Thursday:  Trip to Bury St Edmunds. A break from the classroom. Props and costumes.

RELAX…   “Oooh, we’ve found some amazing costumes and props in the charity shops! Our film is going to be the best!”  …

On Friday:  Filming!

TOTAL PANIC …  “We have 90 minutes to film all this!”; “I keep forgetting my lines!”;  “She keeps forgetting her lines!”; “He won’t stop laughing!”; “Oh no! Our film is going to be a disaster!”  …

… and, amazingly, despite everything, and in just one short week – the films are always brilliant!

Many, many thanks to all the students for your wonderful ideas, your inspired creativity, and your endless enthusiasm. You make the best films. I can’t wait to make more films next summer! ”

Making real English friends using your real English skills!

A big hello to all the children who joined us at Moreton Hall between 06 July and 19 July 2014!

Do you remember the day we visited RA Butler Academy in Saffron Walden?  What fun it was!  and well done to you all!  You can all be proud of the way you joined classes in a real English school. The RAB teachers and children loved welcoming you to their school.  They learned a lot from you – about your countries and your languages and were all impressed at how much English you used!  and at your bravery!  I wonder how many English children would be able to join French, Spanish, Armenian, Russian or Chinese school classes and have fun too?

Read this paragraph from the RAB School Newsletter the week after your visit to see what they thought:

School News: 18th July 2014 – International students visit RAB

” We were delighted that a short notice we were able to host a visit of 35 international students from the Cambridge Academy of English on Monday.  They spent the day in various junior classes taking part in daily school activities.  We have had a message from CAE at Moreton Hall saying “Thank you for making us feel so welcome and providing such and interesting day for us…  They students had a brilliant day and made some lovely friends.”  A lot of them particularly enjoyed the “Stella the Starfish” dress rehearsal and the Bridge End Garden picnic! This is a really exciting link for the school that we will look to develop further next year. “
